Even if…

The blessing of the LORD makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.

Proverbs 10:22

  • Even if the sun never shines again…
  • Even if your husband dies on the way home from work today…
  • Even if all of your possessions are lost in a fire tonight…
  • Even if you don’t get another prayer answered…
  • Even if you never have a child…
  • Even if you never have another child…
  • Even if your child dies…
  • Even if you never experience another blessing from the hand of God…

You have received better than you deserve

If you got what you deserved

  • You would be guilty of everything…

For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it. James 2:10

  • You would be beaten and crucified with the wrath of God upon you…

But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

  • You would be a child of the devil…

You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44

  • You would be eternally separated from a holy God and bound for hell…

Remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. Ephesians 2:12

Praise God that He doesn’t give us what we deserve

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2:13

So, what makes you think that (fill in the blank) should happen or be given to you?

We have all we need in Christ.

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Hebrews 13:5

  1. This brings tears to my eyes. Tears of conviction. Tears of knowing I need to surrender my wants and gotta haves. God has given me more than I deserve; I know that. And I know I should be to a point where I’d be content if I didn’t ever get a child of my own to hold and raise. Maybe I’m part way there but I still ache for a child.

    • Sometimes, doing the right thing is a process. I wasn’t in this place after my first loss. I’m still not here now at times. It’s sacrificial obedience to God that surrenders the belief that you “deserve” a child, and trusting that God will ultimately give you what is the very best for your life. It’s difficult to get to this place, but it is so very freeing. The desire will probably never go away, no matter what, but you will have a peace, knowing that you don’t need to change anything to be complete in Christ.

    • This is, for sure, a process. One minute you’ll think you’ve surrendered this 100%, the next you’ll realize you need to surrender again. It’s a place you can only get to by God helping you there. No amount of will power will take you there alone. Only His grace will. We often have to cry out, “God, I want to WANT to!!!!” And He carries us from there. ❤
